Heritage. Story. Tradition. Legacy.

Our pies are a family recipe passed down by my grandmother.

I’m Nakia!

As Grandma’s Recipe Sweet Potato Pies’ Owner & Operator, fewer things bring me more joy than a full dining table around one of my kitchen creations—sweet potato pies included, but, of course! Bringing those same good-food feelings to you through my line of pie products rank right up there on the joyfulness scale! As a native New Yorker with Black southern roots, I’ve had a lifetime of skill perfection and some of the best teachers—my Grandmas! In the case of Grandma’s Recipe Sweet Potato Pies, it’s my Grandma Louise.

But the recipe came from my grandmother.

Grandma’s Recipe

Grandma’s Recipe Pies is truly a family legacy. Handed down from my grandmother, Louise Johnson, who spent a great deal of her life nourishing others, Grandma’s Recipe represents heritage, story, tradition, and legacy. A native of North Carolina, Grandma Louise brought food joy to many, especially after eventually settling in New York City.

Whether while managing the kitchen at work in Harlem, leading in the kitchen at church where she was a founding member, or creating magic in her own kitchen at home, Grandma Louise always seemed to be cooking—savory, sweet, combinations of both—she did it all—with style, flair, and deliciousness! Memories of her annual New Year’s Day gatherings are just as long-lasting as her legacy--one that I am so honored to carry forward.
